My thesis work, The Touch of Water, is a study of
surfaces and textures found in water. The pieces are abstractions of different
moments that occur in the oceans and fresh water. To create this work I used ceramic slip casting, hand
building and mixed media materials to produce the wall hung pieces.
The inspiration for this
work comes from my connection to water and my interest in exploring that
relationship. I’m drawn to its
tactile nature and its ability to change in an instant or stay frozen in time
for millions of years. I want to
communicate my amazement of these simple natural occurrences.
My work is not meant to be touched, but
I hope to evoke in the viewer the desire to touch it: Like when a child walks past a water fountain, they
can’t help but dip their hand in.
